Poor Microphone Audio quality on HP 23-R115a All-In-One PC.

Product Name: HP 23-R115a
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

As a musician, I like to use the Voice Recorder app in Windows 10, to do quick recordings of musical inspiration when the moments presents itself. I then store these 'Draft' musical ideas into my professional Recording Software package, (Cakewalk Sonar X1),

I have a HP 23-R115a All-In-One PC,

Using the following...

  • AMD High Definition Audio Device,
  • Audio Codec: Realtek ALC3228-CG,

...and I find that the audio quality of the resultant "m4a" files are really bad quality and super lossy with heaps of compression artifacts.

It's important to note that he playback within Voice Recorder is crap from the outset, so it's not the Cakewalk software.

Is there a way I can edit/alter/re-define the Microphone recording parameters?

I've tried changing the audio quality of these 2 options in the Microphone properties via Control Panel, as well as update the driver, but there is no change to poor quality.

TIA

Hello @AeroGEL,

Welcome back to the HP Support Forums!

I read your post about the microphone issue, and wanted to assist you!

If you already tried changing the settings, and updating/restoring drivers, I do not believe there is an native way to improve the quality of the mic.  Unless you use 3rd party software/hardware.

Re: Poor Microphone Audio quality on HP 23-R115a All-In-One PC.

Thanks for your response.

I've also sent an email to...

  • Realtec Tech Support
  • AMD Tech support.

I'm quite surprised considering I have what is known as an AMD High Definition Audio Device.

STOP PRESS:

Important Update... I've just got my old Microsoft LifeCam out of storage, and used it's built-in Microphone... It's Great!. very clear and no compression artifacts.

So, the problem is with the built-in Mic of my All-In-One HP desktop, or the Realtec codec.

I'll have to wait for those tech support guys to respond.

Thanks
