Solved!

Posting Good information for help with a BSOD error

HP Recommended

When your computer crashes and shows a blue screen there is often some very valuable information in the picture that will allow users to help you solve your issue and find out what is causing that blue screen to appear.

Looking at the picture at the end of the article  you will see two highlighted sections you will always want to post this information in your forum thread when looking for help as it’s going to be the most critical part of the troubleshooting. The top tells us what is happening and the bottom says where it’s happening at. We’ve just answered two of the most important questions when trying to solve a problem.

What is going wrong?

Where is the problem isolated to?

Most of the text is pretty boring, but if it looks important to you then it may be important to us. We have all seen what a BSOD looks like, but we don’t know what your BSOD looks like.

There are more important questions that you can answer that will help with troubleshooting your BSOD error message.

  1. What is your system make and model? We know you are running an HP computer, but there are tons of computers. We need to know your specific model to ensure you are running proper drivers and that we point you to the proper drivers.
  2. What is your version of Windows and Service pack?
  3. Are you running a 64 bit or 32 bit OS?
  4. What is your Internet Browser and version?
  5. Does your system use IDE drives or SATA drives?
  6. What current anti-virus and malware software are you using? Is it up to date?
  7. Did the issue occur after a power interruption such as an improper shutdown or power outage?
  8. What has recently changed?
  9. Does this happen often can you effectively reproduce the problem? If you can reproduce it easily what steps can you take to reproduce the issue.

Here is a list of the most common BSOD errors that you may see

This thread is purely an informative thread. If you are experiencing a BSOD error please create a new thread ensuring you are providing the information that this thread is asking about.

While many BSOD errors may be troubleshot the same way, there is a numerous amount of them and they should be troubleshot on their own.

If you have anything else you would like to add or general BSOD questions then you can post them here, however if you are asking about anything that requires actual troubleshooting it should be in it's own thread.
