Power supply upgrade for p6710f

Just picked one of these up at Staples today--the price ($399) was too sweet to not pick this up for a second computer for the house.

I know this comes with a 250W power supply.  Can someone recommend compatible upgrades for the power supply?  What kind of power supply do I need for this model?

Hi,

Look at the Corsair CX600 600 watt or the Corsair CMPSU-500CX 500W.  The 500 watt model has 34 amps on the 12+ volt bus and the 600 watt model has 40 amps on the 12+ volt bus.  Both are single rail unit so you don't have to think about balancing loads across multiple 12+ volt busses.

These HP "how-to" articles should be helpful.

You should open up your PC and measure the physical dimensions of your power supply.  Here is a list of things to consider:

  1. Specifications
  2. Total wattage - important
  3. 12+ volt amperage rating - important
  4. Modular - not mandatory but I like the flexibility
  5. Warranty
  6. i7 and SLI ready
  7. Efficiency rating
  8. Cost
  9. Physical size -- standard ATX PSU is 5.5" by 5.9" by 3.4" give or take a few tenths
  10. A single 12+ volt rail is a better choice.

Re: Power supply upgrade for p6710f

Thanks very much...I have a friend of mine who does this sort of thing for a living install the power supply for me, but I need to order it myself, and I had no clue what ones would work with my model.  Thanks!
