My Talk Talk HG635 fibre Super Router is five feet away from the desk top

Connected by wifi I can download at varying speeds, from about 2 to 5 mps. When I connect a Lan cable between the two I get 20 mps.

I have succeeded in getting new drivers installed via an automatic internet search; but there has been no change in speed using wifi.

Hi,

On many machines, cable connection is always faster than wireless.

Regards.

Thank you.

A 6 year old  Dell in the same room using a wireless dongle picks up the Talk Talk router at about 20 mps.

So I really do think the Realtek Adaptor plays a major part in the problem.

I wonder if having the operating system running from an SSD  in the HP Desktop makes a difference?
