Replace CPU i5-2500 to i7-3770


Can I replace CPU on my HP compaq elite 8200 sff (i5-2500,4gb,500gb)  core i5-2500 to any i5,i7, xeon e3 Ivy bridge gen cpus?

Will it work?

Certainly a XEON processor would NOT work as it requires a workstation type chipset. It is possible that other i5 or i7 processors might work. Just be aware that every processor qualified, tested, and supported by HP on a platform (like the 8200 Elite) often brings along certain Intel microcode 'fixes' included in the BIOS. Processors not officially supported by HP may very well work as long as the chipset supports it but there are no guarantees of performance

Please refer to the Quick Specs from under Processor!spectype=worldwide&type=html&doc...


Also try updating the BIOS to the latest version if you do any change on processor.
