Replacement HD for Seagate ST3750528AS in Pavilion p6204y

The hard drive on my 4-yr old HP-Pavilion p6204y desktop failed the SMART Short Self Test. I'm otherwise happy with the computer and would be happy to keep using it with a new HD.

The original drive is available as well as Seagate's Barracuda ST31000524AS. These two Seagate drives have a lot of bad reviews on Amazon--everything from early failure to poor firmware.

Can the Western Digital 1TB HD WD 10EZEX which has a much better review history be used as a plug-in substitute in my computer? The transfer rate is greater (6 gb/s compared to 3) and storage capacity  (1TB as against 600gb). Are there any adjustments that need to be made if I switch to the WD HD?

I haven't done this type of thing before but the HP instructions look pretty straightforward.

Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Re: Replacement HD for Seagate ST3750528AS in Pavilion p6204y

The WD will work in your system, at the older Sata2 3GB/s rate. The benefit will be the 64MB cache. The second surprise will be that both Seagate and WD offer their free cloning program "Disk Wizard".

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served.
