Pavilion 510-P079 or 089
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Will be buying Pavilion 510-P079 or P089.  Optical drive is called "Ultraslim-tray SuperMulti DVD Burner".

ODD bay on outside is 9.5MM wide (.374" or 3/8").

Can I remove the ODD that comes with the computer, and replace it with an optical drive that is "Lightscribe" enabled that I can purchase on the 'Net (I believe HP makes some, as well as other companies) ?

If so, does anyone know the name(s) and model(s)?

@GMH7777,

Personally I would not do it. Extensive use of the LightScribe software to etch a monochrome (gray scale) text will burn out the laser.  The internals get very hot. The media was very hot to grasp.   Had it happen with my burner.

As a sidebar <> HP conceived the process, but abandoned it late 2013.  Companies ceased manufacturing in 2013, except one. See here under history.

Thanks for the heads-up Dean about overheating.  But I won't be using it extensively - in fact a lot of the CDs/DVDs that I make, I will not use the "Lightscribe" feature, & even if the laser does burn out, I have the original ODD that I can reinstall.

So, as I asked, can it be done?  And do you know any name(s) / model(s)?

Thanks,

@GMH7777,

I would suggest you use this link,  and call them, or email your exact specs.

It would be a discontinued product.
