SATA ports, eSATA capability in HP ENVY 700-215xt

I am considering an HP ENVY 700-215xt desktop PC.  I see the motherboard has 4 different color SATA ports, but cannot find anything in the documentation describing them.  Are some allocated to hard drives, others to DVD drives?  I want to add an eSATA bracket to image the internal HD to an external HD.  So it is important to know which MB SATA connector to use.

Also, is there any documentation on the BIOS for the Memphis-B motherboard?  Couldn't find it.

SATA ports, eSATA capability in HP ENVY 700-215xt

Hello kk123,

I understand you are inquiring as to the SATA ports on your motherboard and as to whether they are device specific. I am connecting you to an HP Support document: About SATA Hard Drives and Controller Modes, which should answer your questions concerning SATA controllers.

I am also including an HP Support document: Serial ATA Hard Drive Cables, which if you scroll to the end of the document has a chart that explains the colours of the SATA connectors and what they are for.

Lastly, I am providing you with a last HP Support document: HP eSATA PCI cable kit installation, that although is not specific to your computer will give you an idea of how to setup your eSATA Bracket.

I hope I have answered your questions to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

SATA ports, eSATA capability in HP ENVY 700-215xt

Hi kk123,

The HP Envy 700-215xt has the Intel H87 chipset that supports SATA III (6 Gb/s). See the below image.

Using the empty SATA ports for eSATA support shouldn't be an issue.

So where did this photo come from.  I couldn't find one of that resolution or with call outs.

I've been thinking of getting a better PC, maybe the ENVY Phoenix 810-130qe.  That uses the Kaili board.  I'd love to see a better photo of it with call outs of the connectors than what is public.
