Setup RAID 1 on new Envy 700

I can't seem to figure out how to configure my new HP Envy 700-200z for RAID 1. I ordered it equipped with 2 matching drives and was told before I ordered it that this machine supports RAID 1. PC is running Windows 8.1.  So I converted the drives to Dynamic drices, but when I try to set the drives to "mirror" I find that option does not exist. I went into BIOS and changed the drives from (I think it was ACH or something close to that) to RAID, but then the PC wouldn;t boot to Windows. So I changed the BIOS back, but don't know where to go from here.  I'm sure I must be missing something... Not sure it matters, but I have 16 GB RAM, two matching 1 TB drives, AMD A-10-6700 3.7 GHz, 64-bit Win 8.1  OS. Thank you for any help!

Hi:

Make your set of W8 recovery media first.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03481733

You can google the problem like I did and see what you can find.

http://denihow.com/how-to-install-amd-raid-driver-after-windows-installation/

There is no easy solution to do what you want.

I am not sure if you can change the BIOS setting to RAID and use the recovery media you made to reinstall Windows.

In other words, I don't know if the recovery media will only work in ACHI mode or if it will work in any sata mode.

Solved!

Setup RAID 1 on new Envy 700

Hello

I finally figured out how to configure RAID without backup-restore and without difficult procedures:

1 -  Install your new disk in the computer if you don't have 2 already -at least same size as the original one)

2  - Disable User Account Control: go to control panel - Action Center - change User Accounts Settings (left menu) and put the slider at the bottom  --> reboot required

3  - Download Intel Raid Storage Technology from :

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23496/eng/Set...

(This won't install when UAC is enabled)

Reboot - you will have Intel Rapid Storage Technology in the task bar and in "All Applications"

4 - In All Applications, find "Command Prompt", right-click and choose to open it with Administrator privileges : type "msconfig"  - in "Boot"-tab, check "Safe Boot" adn click OK.

5 - Reboot computer - enter BIOS with "Escape" - change BIOS settings in Drive Options from AHCI to RAID - save settings and boot

6 - Open "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" : under status, you will have the possibility to create a custom volume and to preserve the data on the orginal disk - the process of syncing the disks will take some time.

7 - When 100%,  enter msconfig again, remove the "Safe Boot" check and you can reboot your pc

8 - You can  put UAC back in the original position.

SUCCESS !!
