Solutions For Lockups, Freezes, & Hangs

Its seems many people are having issues with the "Elite" Pavillions (models starting with e or m)  freezing up and blue screening. I am looking for solutions so I wanted to request that people post SOLUTIONS here. Reading through numorous horror stories is only so helpful. Please inclued system specs as this might help us identify the probelm. It seems there are known issues with these models but since HP isnt doing anything about it we're just going to have to work together. My specs are as follows:

Pavillion m9600t

Vista 64 service pack 1

Motherboard: Pegatron Truckee, IPMTB- K v1.03 Bios 5.13

Intel i7 920

8 GB RAM (16JTF25664AY-1G4D1)

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1 GB ( driver version: 8.16.11.9062, 8-17-2009)

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Pavillion m9600t

Vista 64 service pack 2

Motherboard: Pegatron Truckee, IPMTB- K v1.03 Bios 5.13

Intel i7 920

12 GB RAM (unsure of the number, I can't boot the computer, since they returned it after replacing the HDD's.  It's being returned for the 2nd time.)

NVIDIA GeForce the other 1 gig one, not the GTS 250

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Look, I don't know what solutions we can come up with, and what if we did come up with something? "HP only replaces what's broken, they don't test and replace parts based on what people are posting on some blog" is what I was told when I tried to relate the experiences we discuss here.  He was right, they saw the raid 0 failure on the initial boot screen, replaced the HDD's and sent it back.  No addressing the freezes and BSOD's.  Now, it's going back because it can't even see those replaced drives. Who knows if it will work once that issue is fixed.  Ya think they have a flood of returned boxes going through there?  Yeah, I think.

Mike, I don't want to rain on your idea, it's just that I don't know what we can resolve, or should resolve, more to the point.  I don't think it's up to me.  We all paid a lot of money for a new product that doesn't work, and it's up to the company to do what's right.

here is my info, I made a spreadsheet of all the elite systems above, the systems are slightly different from one to another, except they all have an Intel Core i7 920 (not clear if all D0)

Proximo

 Pavilion Elite e9150t (cto)

 BIOS 5.18

Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1+updates (not SP2, yet)

 Pegatron Truckee, IPMTB-TK v1.04

 Intel Core i7 920 D0

 6 GB  nvidia GT 220  1GB  (driver v8.16.11.9062)

 RAID (0) 640 GB,  ATAPI 16x Lightscribe DVD-RW

Situation

> believe all latest drivers/SW updates installed, but not SP2 yet

> freezes (no BSODs) 10-30min after cold boot, will run until shutdown if powered off/on shortly after freeze (ie., warm boot).  Can also be run from a cold start until shutdown (typ. 5-10 hrs) using the F10 BIOS resave method at startup.   Will freeze again (if cool/cold),  after a long sleep period if was restarted after first freeze by power off/on.    Has problems after long sleep (if cool/cold) if it was started using the F10 BIOS resave method,  got a music load failure and errors messages about sound card (still testing)

> replacement for a e9660t cto (which had RAID (was repaired) and then lots of freeze and BSOD problems),

THIS e9150 was delivered  8/19, no resolution to date

correction to post above.  My prior machine was an Elite m9600t cto, not an e9660t.    I have MS Office 2007 and Adobe DS CS4 loaded.  They all seem to work fine.

PCleery  I've wondered about Norton.  Did you run for any amount of time with it on the e9150t before switching to the Windows Live?

I had Norton the first two weeks with this new machine. I had no problems with it. I just didn't like it.

PCleery   thanks that's good to know.  A HP person talked about about conflicts between Norton and Windows Defender in one of my calls.

Pavilion Elite e9180f (NP267AA-ABA)

Motherboard - Pegatron Truckee,  v1.04  BIOS v5.13

Intel Core i7 920

Chipset - Intel X58

Southbridge - Intel ICH10R (DO Sata Raid Controller)

9 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (1333 MHz)

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1 GB DDR3 (driver version: 8.15.11.8627 6-26-2009)

HDD - Seagate ( ST31000528AS)   1TB (7200rpm)

Vista Home Premium 64-bit (SP2)

Made in China

Received my Computer on Aug. 24-2009.

So far talked to Tech Support 2 times, did 2 "clean install".

Here is my solution for now:

About 5 minutes after boot up I hit  "restart".

Use my "Max Registry Cleaner 2009" after every install, update and uninstall.

Have "Diskeeper Pro 2009" installed to make sure the HDD stay's defragmented.

Clean out "Temp" folders once a day.

Purchased "Driver Alert2" so all my drivers are up to date.

Had 1 hang up (installed Acrobat Reader) since the last clean install (Sep. 8).
