Re: TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632N Device not working

click the start menu
find the search box (located at directly above the start menu button)
type in "regedit" and press enter
you might get a warning asking if you want to open the "Registry Edit"
click yes

now you should have the registry edit program open

double click on "computer"
double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
double click on "SYSTEM"
double click on "CurrentControlSet"
double click on "Control"
double click on "Class"
double click on "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

now you should see a list of items on the right side of the window

and there is an item named "lowerfilter"

anyway... right click on it and click delete.

once deleted, close the registry edit prgram and restart your pc.

hope it works
hope this helps

PS. If there is so called UPPER FILTER do the same (cancel it)! Good luck

Re: TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632N Device not working

wonderimg if you have any other suggestions/help?  I've tried this & everything else short of upgrading the latest firmware release (which is not issued by HP).

I have a dv 6810us laptop.  my DVD sometimes shows up in device manager & sometimes not.  light flickers on, it spins, & reads the disc.  data shows up in explorer & auto run opens, but will no longer play in winamp, media player, or power DVD - which are all working for other formats- MP3 etc...

next time I reboot, I get a message that hardware ID is missing for device @ ATA 0 & it does not show up at all in device manager.  next time I reboot?  it plays music & movies - so I'm completely baffled...

wondering what U/anybody think???  should I upgrade firmware or is my drive going bad???  if so?  any way to test it?

thanx

Re: TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632N Device not working

thanx.  tried that too.  haven't  ever had much sucess w/ MS fixes tho...

wondering if you can speak to the registry fix in previous post?  I have vista.  deleted 'lowerfilters'  (no upperfilter)  in the suggested currentcontrolset - w/ no improvement.  I also have a 'lowerfilters' w/ the same key string reference in a 'currentcontrolset003'  it's located right after the 'currentcontrolset' referenced in the post thread.  should I try deleting that one as well?

[ Edited ]

Try this post for a firmware update.  If the drive is not working then you might not be able to even do a firmware update.

Boot into the bios (setup) and see if the bios recognizes the optical drive.

There might be a driver block issue where multiple applications are causing a driver loading conflict.

Open the RUN window and enter the following:

MSCONFIG

Go to the Service TAB, click on hide Microsoft services and then disable all of the others, then apply, go to teh Startup TAB and do tthe process. Now reboot. Does the drive now show up OK in Device Manager?  If yes, then yuo for sure have a conflict.

Re: TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632N Device not working

thanx.

my phoenix bios has few features & doesnt acknowledge any hardware -even HDD's -so that was no help.

the DVD drive shows up in device mgr w/ drivers loaded after MSCONFIG so that's not it.  yet next time I come out of 'sleep' mode, I get a 'hardware ID is missing' message & drivers are gone.  (WTF???)

all disc info programs freeze up w/ out a reading (unless hardware ID is missing then it shows 'no device') & need to use task mgr to get out.   couldn't get IMGBURN to read so no firmware update from that  either - although I have found it online elsewhere.  do you think that's worthwile to try?

WINAMP shows# of tracks & time but no artist info & gives a directsound buffer error.  mediaplayer gives me an error reading digital media & asks to try in analog which goes no where.

recently dumped a lot of pre-loaded software -some of which was DVD media related apps (lightscribe, slingblade etc.), but if that's not it I'm stumped...

thanx

Re: TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632N Device not working

Did you try a hard reset? Unplug the laptop, remove the battery and hold teh power button down for 30-60 seconds. Replace battery and plug the laptop back in and power up.
