The Pavilion a365c desktop is not recognizing new 1 GB memory RAM -

Help- I'm having trouble adding new RAM memory to my Pavilion desktop a365c. The current RAM is 512MB and I fear it is about to crash. I purchased two - 1GB Kingston memory sticks (DDR  - PC3200 - 400 Mhz), I rearranged the two 256 memory sticks already in the computer and placed them next to each other. I thought placing the two new memory sticks right next to each other might do the trick but the computer does not even recognized they are installedDid I add too much memory or do I have to do something else first?

Did you try just the new sticks of memory? According to HP specs it shows it will only read 2GB.
