Upgrading video card, Computer stuck on black screen

[ Edited ]

I am replacing the video card in my friend's HP a5600f desktop. There is no onboard video on her model, and I replaced the psu to a 480W psu so she could use my old HIS 6400 Silence video card.

Once I place the card in and power on the computer, the fans turn on to full speed, but it never makes it to POST, and the fans never decrease to their normal speeds. I have tried the video card in my own computer, and it works fine, so I know that isn't the issue. I re-inserted the original card that it came with and it works fine once again, so i know it's not the mother board. I even cleared the CMOS by jumper, I haven't tried removing the battery yet. Is there just some incompatibility that won't allow these two to work with one another? I really can't figure it out for the life of me.

Upgrading video card, Computer stuck on black screen

[ Edited ]

Hi franky1029,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I have read your post on not being able to boot your friend's desktop after replacing the graphics card, and I would be happy to be of assistance! To begin, I need to ask you a few questions:

What is the Product and Model Number of the desktop?

Who is the manufacturer of the PSU? What is the BIOS on the desktop up to date? To find out, please follow this document on Updating the Bios.

Please re-post with the necessary information, and I will diligently follow up with you!

Regards

From what you said and did not say, I doubt you followed the manual's directions. See here

It states you must uninstall the previous graphic card driver. I would also recommend any associated software.
