Video card upgrade options

HP Pavilion HPE h8 1124
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm trying to find a suitable upgrade for the video card that will run on this system.  I want to upgrade to a 2Gig memory card.  I realize I may also need to upgrade the power supply.  One that I have been looking at is the Radeon R7 240 GDDR3-2GB.  I'd go up to the a better card but am afraid anything stronger won't be compatible.

I'm looking for a card that will run games well with medium to high graphic settings.

I'm moderately comfortable with swapping hardware components in a PC as I have done it before.  I'm just not very knowledgable when it comes to compatibility concerns.  Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated

Video card upgrade options

Hi @Corsival,

I hope you enjoy your visit to the HP Support Forums. I understand you have questions about upgrading the video card. I will be glad to help you.

Per Motherboard Specifications, IPISB-CU (Carmel2), this computer has One PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0) port.

The case has a 300 W power supply.

The AMD Radeon R7 240 is PCI Express x16 gen 3.0 2 slots wide, so it will only run at Gen 2 speeds and cover one of the PCI x1 ports.

Please keep me informed of how things went.

If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you.
