Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been unable to find the correct type of cable to connect a laptop to my desktop (Envy 23).  The shop I have been to claims to have provided me with every type of lead/cable available, and none of them fit the portals on my computer?  I need to connect the laptop to the desktop to download information such as documents and pictures.

Two options:

1. a "cross-over" Ethernet cable.  The "send" and "receive" wires at one end connect to "receive" and "send" wires at the other end.  Then, enable Windows "file-sharing" (exactly "how" depends on which version(s) of Windows your computers are using).

2. If you have a "router" in your home, to "split" the incoming Internet connection to allow multiple computers to wired/wirelessly share that connection, and both computers are connected (wired or wirelessly) to that router, using the usual "straight-through" Ethernet cables, then enable Windows "file-sharing" across your home network.
