Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum,

it is a great place to find answers. 😉

As I understand you are unable to burn a CD as the disc isn't being recognized,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you, although, to provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern:
Which operating system did you get along with this computer while it was purchased?

What is the product number of your device?

(Do not share any personal information such as serial number, email ID, phone number or address on a public forum for your safety).

While you reply with the answers, please try the below links to resolve your concern:

If the Drive Cannot Read Discs: Click here to ensure the discs are being detected before you can start burning on them,

Once you've confirmed that the discs are being detected, Click here to learn about and resolve issues withing burning on the CDs.

Keep me posted, If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,  Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.

Have a great day! Regards,
