Z440 add external raid storage

HP Recommended
Z440
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi all,

We have several workstation Z440 and we nee more storage space for each of them. Unfortunately, the cabinet can contains just a couple of Sata disks.

We don't want to work with a sata to usb device: we want to find a solution to use all the internal sata/ssata ports and connect them to an external device by using long sata cables or the esata ports.

Wich is the best solution?

The workstation's manual says:

"The C612 chipset supports two SATA AHCI controllers, sSATA and SATA. The sSATA controller supports four 6 GB/s ports
and RAID modes 0, 1, 10 and 5. The SATA controller supports two 6 GB/s ports and RAID modes 0 and 1. Ports from both
controllers can be routed to the rear panel with an eSATA bulkhead option. Note that it is not possible to RAID across the
two SATA controllers"

But I do not exactly know what I have to buy and how to configure it.

Thanks in advance

Best

CED
