adding hard drive to HP ENVY 700-215xt

I need to add a secondary hard drive to my 700-215xt.  I see plenty of power connectors but no available data cables.  Do I need to purchas this cable my self?  Where do I connect it to the motherboard.  I see a couple of possible connectors, a green and a pinkish port.  Are these free to connect any device such as a hard drive or opticle drive?

Hi..

Here are the sepecifications of your System

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04094823

and according to that. You need...and HDD

Hard Disk = 1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA 6G, 2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA 6G or 3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA 6G

Disk Cache = 16 GB mSATA SSD Cache

if you have more then 1 sata connctor with your motherboard then you can connect it.. chekc you would be having near by six sata connctors there..

hope it helps!

Re: adding hard drive to HP ENVY 700-215xt

Thank's, pretty much as I thought.  I just need to get a data cable.  I might have one in my old Pavilion.

I much appreciate your response.

Peace

Re: adding hard drive to HP ENVY 700-215xt

If I look at the users guide, it does not match what I see in the computer chassis. It says to remove the T bar and the screws that hold the hard drive cage. This is great except that there is no T bar and there are no screws to remove, the hard drive cage has rivets only which I don't thik you can remove without causing some damage to it. Does anyone know how to add a new hard drive to this computer. I put a new one in, but it is holding with only two screws. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi CJNPP,

The 3.5 HDs require special guide/slide screws. There have been lots of suggestions posted for what screws could be used but no one so far as posted the exact HP part number for the screws.  The 2.5" HD or SSD uses a special adapter bracket has been posted on the forum.

Thanks for the response, but I think they should put a better cage system in place.

Hi CJNPP.

The cage design is excellent except for the special parts that are needed to accommodate expansion.
