computer shut off and will not turn back on

I an HP Pavillion desktop that when I plugged an mp3 player into, it shut off and will not turn back on. The mp3 player is also not turning on and it had full battery power. My power supply does not smell or make noises. I can see the light on the mother board lit up but no fans running and pushing the power button does absolutely nothing. I am wondering if its a bad power button or if the computer fried when I plugged the mp3 player in?

Considering the story depicted, I would not think it is the power button on the computer.  They rarely fail and it would seem more likely that the mp3 player caused the problem.  If you would like to troubleshoot the power supply theory, then study this GUIDE to verify or disprove that theory.
