cq5222uk vn452aa#abu windows 7(64bit) seagate 3TB hard drive shown as 746gb

sata drive is showing 746.39gb instead of 3000gb, i have used seagate disc wizard but get an error when trying to use the 'extended capacity manager' - unsupported version of nVidia disk controller driver

where can i get a supported version of nVidia disk controller driver if there is one available for my system, or should windows 7 home 64 bit recognize the drive anyway ?

thanx

Hi:

If you want to use the 3 TB drive as your primary hard drive, your PC is not capable of booting from or "seeing" all 3 TB of a 3 TB hard drive.

It lacks:

1.  A UEFI BIOS

2. You cannot format the drive in GPT because you do not have a UEFI BIOS.

If you want to use it as a data drive only, you may be able to get it to work.  Here is some info about 3 TB HDD's.

andi13,

I have 5 HP desktop computers ranging from a 2006 HP a1632x to a 2011 HP p7-1026. All of these computers use a non-UEFI BIOS such as the one in your computer. Please see the below data that I have compiled, concerning these computers and my use of a 3TB drive on them;

a1632x - nVidia Chipset - 430/6150LE - MCP51

BIOS v3.11 - Nagami2 - BIOS drive cap. = 3000GB

Windows 7 usable capacity = 2.793TB

p6130y - nVidia Chipset - 720a/9100 - MCP78

BIOS v5.22 - Violet - BIOS drive cap. = 801GB

Windows 7 usable capacity = 2.793TB

p6320y - nVidia Chipset - 720a/9100 - MCP78

BIOS v5.13 - Violet6 - BIOS drive cap. = 801GB

Windows 7 usable capacity = 2.793TB

p6787c - AMD Chipset - AMD 785G

BIOS v6.09 - Aloe - BIOS drive cap. = 801GB

Windows 7 usable capacity = 2.793TB

p7-1026 - AMD Chipset - AMD 785G

BIOS v6.07 - Alvorix - BIOS drive cap. = 3TB

Windows 7 usable capacity = 2.793TB

Based on the above information, you should have no trouble using the 3TB drive on your computer and its M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard. Please note... you will most likely have to initialize the drive and partition it using the Windows Drive Management console. To be a single partition, it will need to be partitioned GPT.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
