dual monitor 550 a114
02-06-2016 04:26 PM

I bought this computer, thinking it was ready for two monitors. It has one VGA and one DVI slot,
I have 2 vga monitors. One works through the VGA port, the one that I'm trying to use with a DVI adaptor does not.
The monitor does work through a USB adaptor, but I really want that USB port freed up since I'm getting flack from drives attached through a hug.
How do I get the computer to see the monitor I want to connect through the DVI port?

Thank you for your quick reply!
I'm not sure my question is answered. It would appear that this is a case of false advertising. From what the link says, one cannot have both a vga and digital monitor plugged in.
The adapter from vga to dvi does not seem to work.
Therefore, without the USB workaround, the computer is not ready to run dual monitors.
Thanks,
Anne

I have a similar progblem but I have a native VGA and a native DVI monitor. I can one or the other to work but not both. When I attach both the driver recognizes it, beeps, then rejects it and beeps again. they both worked when I first set up the box but after all the initial softaware updates the must ocure, I started having this issue. I have tried three different drivers but the best I can do is one monitor (some drivers give me no monitors). Pavilion 550-a114. I tried the "guide" page but all it did was give me one of the bad drivers.

Here is what it states in the specs for the motherboard:
- AMD graphics (combined with the processor)
- Supports DX11
- DVI and VGA output ports (both ports can be used at the same time)
Therefore, I am certain that you should be able to connect two monitors. Once they are connected, you should go into the Control Panel / Display to assure that both monitors are being recognized.

I have connected the main monitor via a VGA with a VGA as in any normal setup. Works fine. No problem. I'm trying to connect a second monitor using the computer's DVI-D port with a DVI-D to VGA adaptor then VGA cable to the second monitor. Second monitor does not come on. From reading the comments it has been said that you cannot use a DVI-D to VGA connection (either with an adaptor or single cable) to connect a second monitor. My question is, "Can you use a DVI-D to DVI-D cable from computer to monitor? My monitors only have a VGA and DVI-D connection. Does this make sense?

@AZLegend, welcome to the forum.
If both the computer and monitor has a DVI-D connector, you can use them to connect the monitor.
