When you press the F9 key (Boot menu) USB is not shown as an option?

[ Edited ]

I suspect you will have to change the partition method on the usb thumbdrive. There are some setups that have the thumbdrive seen as a HDD and others as a FDD.

What file system is it ?

FAT/FAT32?NTFS or a (Linux style) Ext2 or Ext3

Unfortunately there is no BIOS update available. Booting to a USB thumbdrive or external HDD may not be possible.

Exactly what are you attempting to boot to? That information would help me.

Re: how do you get bios to boot from usb flash drive, usb is not listed in bios

Erico:

I may be having same problem.

Trying to install linux from USB thumb disk, HP dm1-1040us

BIOS Boot order does not list usb thumb.  I have move hard drive choice after CD/DVD and floppy.

On boot, netbook ignores  USB thumb disk, regardless of what I've do. (formatted 1GB usb thumb, tried different distros, changed boot order, etc.)

Appreciate any thoughts.
