i know what your trying to say however, if my 9 pin connector has power and ground in the row with 4 holes, I'm not sure attaching the 5 hole side will make the power button work.  did you mean to connect the side with 4 holes and let the 5 hole side hanging??

Ok so i was wrong... the wires dont "have" to be removed... with the m4a785-m not all pins on the system panel connector are present. So with this MB you can set the HP Fpanel connector on the pins in a correct fashion...

The LED wires still will need to be removed and put in the correct positions for the LEDS to work though.

Hello all... i cannot believe that this thread is a YEAR + strong..smh.  In any event. I have a p6210y desktop with this very same issue.  Started with a HD read/write failure which I thought was the HD. I purchased a new HD and noticed that eventually the DVD RW was not being recognized by the BIOS.  This immediately prompted me to believe that the SATA HD on board controller was shot and prompted me to buy a PCI Express 4 port SATA controller.  Well. i thought this would work, however the DVD RW is not being recognized as a boot option nor is it being recognized in the BIOS for the CD Groups.  The HDs both old and New do appear. There is an attempt to boot..but of course if the drivers cannot be installed then Windows 7 Home just restarts itself.    I have filed a letter to the CEO chain because I truly feel it is a travesty and disservice to loyal company who were benefiting from working computers.   In the mean time, if anyone knows of a way to get the DVD RW to  be recongized via the PCI e SATA controller card I would greatly appreciate it.. 

The Card is a Vantec Model UGT-IS100R SATA II 300 and PATA controller card.

Add another to the list of dead mother boards, and guess what just out of warranty by six weeks Same thing just won’t see the drives. I have taken the drive out and can slave it to another PC so not the drive. I will be contacting HP to see what they have to say but will probably get nowhere except out of pocket.

I am a previous poster who had what I thought was a dead motherboard.  I am now thinking I may have been wrong.  Let me explain.  I own an HP p6130y desktop. I woke up one day to find my monitor in sleep mode.  I restarted only to have the comp freeze up on me time after time, sometimes it doesn't even start and the monitor is not getting a signal.  Finally was able to boot to a diagnostics cd and all tests passed, including memory, harddrive etc.  I work at Best Buy so i took to my Geek Squad buddies who had my pc for a full week and tried all tests that they know.  They tried a new HD but that did not work.  their diagnosis was that it was most likely a dead MB  I took the comp home and soon found this thread where I obviously came to the conclusion my MB was dead.  So I buy a new ASUS M4A785-M board from Tigerdirect, install it, replace all the old components and fire it up.  No go. I call ASUS who tells me to take out all my memory except 1 stick (my comp has four 2 GB sticks of RAM). I fire it back up and voila the computer starts up and all is good.  So I shutdown and replace the other 3 sticks of memory and the comp does not start, the same issue as I first encountered, my monitor is not getting a signal.  So I troubleshoot each stick of memory and I find that 1 stick is causing the problem.  I never did this before because my diagnostic tests indicated my memory was fine.  Could it be my old MB is okay??  I don't feel like going thru another MB changeout right nowbut one day I will have to try this and see what happens.  My advice is todefinitely troubleshoot your memory one by one and see if this is the issue.

That is worth trying and will be doing that today with my unit and will let you know if it works. When I ran diagnostics all passed except it came up with no hard drive connected check your ide leads.
