What are the model-numbers for your two computers?

How old is each computer?

Are both computers in the same room?

Is that room "dusty"?

Do you have pets that shed hair?

Does their hair get into your computer?

It should be relatively easy to remove the side-panel(s) and face-plate of the desktop computer, to look for accumulated dust on the fan(s).  With the side-panel(s) removed, start-up your computer, and watch to see that the fan(s) spin properly.
