new desktop and windows 10 black screen issue

HP slimline 260-p026
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Just bought new desktop and after the system did updates, it rebooted.

I can login and then get a black screen with white cursor.

I have a single monitor with vga cable

After I login, I can alt+ctl+del ...but I can not get task manager to display.

If I select restart, I get a blue screen with the circle of dots...and it hangs

I can push the power button to force a restart.

I can win+p , to toggle display options prior to login....and I tried each option and then logged in, and get black screen.

Since it is out of the box, there is no prior image to boot from, nor media kit including to boot from.

I have tried to get to bios with f4 or f8 keys after hitting powerup button, but goes right to login screen.

I do get full display with bootup and with login screen.

Just black after login .

So, the display works.

Any help appreciated, like all of us stranded pc users.

new desktop and windows 10 black screen issue

@wayne01541

As I understand the computer is not booting into windows anymore,

Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

Although, I need a few details to provide an accurate solution:

Was the update process interrupted?

When was the last time it worked (date)?

Have you attempted any steps of your own to solve the issue?

The fact that there are lights turned on at the power button, AC adapter and capslock confirms there is power being supplied,

However, since the computer isn't booting to windows, please attempt the below steps:

Perform a hard reset

Attempt a BIOS recovery

Run the System Diagnostics tests

For more steps, click here

Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

new desktop and windows 10 black screen issue

I found a good post on thewindowsclub.com about the specific issues I had experienced and the solution.

I had to get into safemode boot, then uninstall the video driver..and do a reboot, whereby the system reinstalled the driver and now all is well.
