no sound with HDMI connection

I have a hpe-140f and  there is no sound when connect to a HD monitor using HDMI cable.

Device manager shows two audio devices both working .  Sound playback windows shows only a speaker and Digital audio device but no HDMI High Definition Audio.

The speaker works if I use a cable to connect to the audio jack of the monitor.

Anyone have any clue?

Re: no sound with HDMI connection

Go to and get the latest audio driver.  Then go to NVIDIA and get the latest video driver.

Go to the Control Panel --> Sound and be sure that under the Playback TAB that HDMI has the green check mark.

Go to the Control Panel --> Realtek HD Audio Manager and be sure that the HDMI output is set as the default device.

In the Control Panel --> Sound, click on the Playback Tab and then right mouse click on that window and select show disconnected and disabled sevices.  HDMI should not be either of these choices.
