on-screen indicators for caps-lock and volume have stopped working

The on-screen indicators for volume and caps-lock have stopped working. Since there are not lights on my keyboard, I need this feature. I am unaware of running any updates or changing my system in any way. This seems to have been spontaneous. It's worked since I bought the Touchsmart 600 -- then one day, not so much. I'd appreciate any help.

Same exact issue here.  Touchsmart 520-1030
