reinstall Windows 7

I had windows 7 from factory on my HP desk top AYA014AA#ABA (system 18 months old)and the system was off for 4 months while I was traveling. After coming home the system was good for 3 days and then just disappeared on turning on. My recovery disc will not pull it back and I do not have a 7 disc to reinstall.

Any help??

F11 does nothing, F8 and other keys do nothing has well

I do need to save files and folders if I can for taxes etc

Any help??

Thanks

Re: reinstall Windows 7

Hi,

Try this first before trying to resolve the issue of Windows failing to boot.

One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files.

Let me know if this is successful.

Re: reinstall Windows 7

Hi,

You're welcome, Linux is a bit easier on the HDD than Windows so hopefully you'll be able to back-up the data you need - there are other methods, so let me know how it goes.
