HP Pavilion x2 - 13-r100dx

The OS originally was 8.1 (64-bit)  but I downloaded the windows 10 upgrade.

My computer would not start, and the screen showed the "boot device not found" error message. So I followed instructions from the HP website about this problem.

The QUICK SCAN results: SMART Check: passed, short DST: WARNING

EXTENSIVE SCAN results: SMART Check: not installed, short DST: not installed

After following more procdures from the HP website, and attempting a hard reset (which did not work - error message "boot device not found" was still all that appeared upon start up), I was instructed to use recovery media.

While using recovery USB, the process gets to the "factory image recovery preparations" part, but before it completes an error message appears that says:

"Copy File Fails

From: C:\PRELOAD\BASE.SWM

To: Z:\RM\IMAGE\BASE.SWM"

The instructions that came with the recovery USB say when this error message appears that I should bring up the "Manufacture menu, and select option 6: Wipe All Sectors" before restarting the recovery procedure again - how do I bring up the Manufacture menu to wipe all sectors?

@kellie7

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand you are using recovery media to reinstall the OS but are unable to do so due to the "Boot device not found" followed by the test resulting in Short DST: Not installed.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check for any other HP Forum posts to help resolve your concern?

If you haven't, Here's a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped others: Click here for the steps.

If the issue persists, reseat the hard drive and retry the test,

Keep me posted for further assistance 😉

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
