windows 10 anniversary update

Model p6510y
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to update to Windows 10 anniversary edition.  I kept getting error messages after installation at 75%.  I spoke to MIcrosoft Level 2 support and they said HP wasn't testing my model which was purchased in 2010 and therefore that was why I was getting error messages.  Is this correct?  I am running windows 10 build 10586.

@tispectrum, welcome to the forum.

Since your computer is over 6 years old, I can believe that HP hasn't tested it.  However, I am not certain what not being tested has to do with the fact that Win 10 Anniversary Update won't install.  I am aware of many older computers that have been updated.  I can't believe that they were all tested by HP.

What are the messages that you are receiving?  They may give us a clue to what is causing your problem.

I have a desktop that has been running Win10 since the very first days of the Insider Program, meaning that I have updated it LOTS of times -- and always, without any problems.

But, like so many other systems, it also FAILED the Anniversary Update.

Some tech forums are reporting that the failure rate with this update exceeds the reports of successes -- as this is, for all intents and purposes, installing a NEW version of Win10, not just a bunch of updates.

What worked for me, and many others as well, is the following:
1) Use this MS link to download and create Win10 install media: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10
2) Insert that media in your PC while Win10 is running -- do NOT boot from it!
3) Open the drive containing the media, right-click on setup.exe and run it

This will start the Update -- which can take 45 minutes or more.

Good Luck

This is so very true; a point that most who are upgrading, not simply updating, don't know.  This is not a cumlative update.

windows 10 anniversary update

The Microsoft Level 2 tech called me back this morning.  He went into HP support and detemined that I'm running windows 10 with windows 7 drivers.  He said I need at least windows 8 drivers to upgrade to the anniversay edition of windows 10.  He couldn't find drivers to update my machine.

I'm running the Windows install mesia suggested by WAWood but i"m sceptical it will work. I think I've tried that ling before.

While you may have done a Repair-Install previously, this time is different -- as MS just released a NEW version of Win10.

You need to use the link I posted to create NEW install media and do a Repair-Install from that.
