Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

Since you mentioned that the CD/DVD drive is unable to read the discs please use the following steps which could help you in resolving the issue.

Step 1: Click Start type Registry Editor in the search box and Start Registry Editor
Or open run box type "regedit".

Step 2: Delete the Upper Filters registry entry

  1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand Current Control Set.
  3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
  4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
  5. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click Upper Filters.

Note you may also see an Upper Filters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click Upper Filters only.
    • If you see the Upper Filters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
    • If you do not see the Upper Filters registry entry, you still might have to remove the Lower Filters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the Lower Filters registry entry."
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. Click Yes when you receive the following message:

Are you sure you want to delete this value?

Step 3: Restart your computer

If you still have issue with reading the discs it could be hardware issue.
