The problem here is whenever i lift my mouse even slightly off of a surface the cursor starts to jump around the screen, even when the mouse can be over 60 cm off of a surface. Does anyone know how to fix this???

If the issue persists in a different computer as well, then I recommend you contact support and check the available service options.
Here is how you can get in touch with support.
1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
2)Select the product type.
3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.
4)Select the country from the drop-down.
5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the cursor starts moving when you lift the mouse.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Have you tested the mouse on a different computer?
What is the operating system you are using?
Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the mouse drivers from your computer and restart it and check if it helps.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
