HP Omen 27 inch monitor
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have recently bought a HP Omen 27 inch monitor to be the second monitor of my gaming rig which are both powered by an NVIDIA GeoForce GTX 1070. I was primarily attracted to the monitor's quoted 165Hz maximum refresh rate. However, when I look under the change resolution settings in the NVIDIA Control panel I can only set it to a maximum of 144Hz.

Is this a problem with the NVIDIA driver software or the HP driver software?

I am using HP My Display to control the monitors settings and using v1.0.0.0 of the monitor driver software.  The attached image is of the options presented by the NVIDIA control panel and the system information presented by HP My Display.

Hi @D_B_Miller,

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance with the refresh rate of the monitor while playing games. I will be really glad to assist you here. 🙂

Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. )

For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try the monitor on a different computer?
  • Did you update the graphics drivers of your computer and check again?

For now, try these steps:

Scan range

  • Horizontal:
  • 34k-222kHz (DP) Overclock off
  • 34k-240kHz (DP) Overclock on
  • 30k-140kHz (HDMI)

Vertical:

  • 30-144Hz (DP) Overclock off
  • 30-165Hz (DP) Overclock on
  • 24-60Hz (HDMI)
  • It states that the feature is supported with overclock on.
  • To do this check the user guide: http://hp.care/2xEKf6w and refer to pages 17-21 on how it is done with the specifications chart listed as well.
  • Then check if the issue is corrected.
  • If it is not, then try the monitor on a different computer with a better High-end graphics card if that is possible.
  • If the issue continues, then update the graphics drivers on the computer and check again.
  • This should fix the issue for you. If it does not then it is a limitation of the NVidia graphics card.
  • Hope this answers your question.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Thank you! That unlocked the 165Hz option and if performing well (so far). The buttons on the back are hidden rather well.

For completeness I'll respond to the alternatives you proposed. I had updated my video drivers and I had not tried it on other systems as I do not have another system I can connect to it.
