OMEN 27u 4K Gaming Monitor

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a serious issue with my HP Omen 27u monitor and would appreciate some help or advice.

i left my monitor on for 30 minutes while ARK: Survival Ascended was running on my PlayStation 5. My monitor suddenly started to flicker very heavily. After closing the game, I noticed that the main menu from ARK remained visible on the screen as if it had been burned in. The severe flickering persits even when no external device is connected and while displaying the monito'rs own on screen display.

I’ve already tried the following:

  • Restarting the monitor and the console

  • Switching to different input sources and cables

  • Lowering the brightness and contrast

  • Displaying a pure white screen for a while to clear possible retention (I didnt do this for long because i was scared that the flickering would do more harm.

  • Updated the bios and firmware

Thanks in advance!

@Kylojazz, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with both severe flickering and image retention (ghosting or burn-in), which can be alarming. Here's a structured approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Factory Reset the Monitor

Sometimes, settings or firmware glitches can cause persistent display issues.

  • Navigate to the monitor’s On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
  • Go to “Management” or “Factory Reset” and perform a full reset.
  • If the flickering persists even in the OSD, this may indicate a hardware-level issue.

Run a Pixel Refresh or Screen Cleaning Cycle

HP monitors don’t always have built-in pixel refresh tools, but you can try:

  • Displaying a fast-changing color pattern or white noise video on loop for 30–60 minutes.
  • Use a YouTube video like this pixel refresher (on another device if needed).

Check for Firmware Updates

You mentioned updating the firmware, but ensure it's the latest version from HP official site:

Test in a Completely Isolated Setup

To rule out external interference:

  • Disconnect all devices.
  • Plug the monitor into a different power outlet (preferably on a different circuit).
  • Use only the monitor’s built-in OSD menu to observe flickering.

If flickering persists with no input connected, it’s likely a hardware fault.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
