Pavilion 32 inch display
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My display shows  a message saying no input on either hdmi port.

I was trying to connect my iPad through an hdmi converter to separate the audio from the video.  The converter needs a 5 volt dc power supply and I have foolishly connectEd a 12 volt supply.

i cannot get the monitor to recognise input on either hdmi port now, they both previously worked.

The control buttons on the back of the monitor still function and all seem to work.  I’ve tried using factory reset to restart the monitor.

Have I damaged the hdmi inputs?

If I have is there any possibility of getting it repaired?

Thanks for your help,

I have the Pavillion 32Q, which has 2x HDMI, 1x DP. Is this the one you are referring to? Have you tried to connect a different device? Perhaps you fried the adapter and not the ports.

BTW, there are 2x USB 2.0 ports on the monitor, one of which is capable of 5w at 5V output, meaning that you didn't even have to use an external adapter, you should be able to plug your adapter directly into the monitor's USB port with a lightning bolt sign.

My monitor does have the two HDMI ports and one DP so I would say it is the same.

Thanks for pointing out that one of the USB ports is capable of providing the 5v DC.  As you say, had I known and used this I would have avoided this problem.

I am more now convinced that the two HDMI ports are damaged as I have noted that the DP port shows as inactive but a blue colour and the two HDMI ports are grey.  The only ‘service’ manual I have found on the HP website turned out to be explaining how to take the monitor apart for recycling so I don’t think repair is going to be a viable option.  I guess I can still make some use of it using the DP port with a computer ( when I get the right cable) but I will not be able to use it with the DVD player.
