HP Reverb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I connect headphones to the 3.5 mm plug, the built-in mics stops working.

My in-ear headphones doesn't have a mic.

Is there anyway  around this, maybe a software or firmware update?

As a workaround I have connected the headphones to my computers sound card.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Have you tried Earphone or Headset without Mic?

While you respond to that, let's try this workaround:

Check if the microphone isn't disabled:

  - Right-click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Click on "Show disconnected devices", and "Show disabled devices".

  - Select on Microphone, click on "Properties". If it is disabled, enable it.

  - Once enabled, set Microphone as default audio input device.

Check if the microphone isn't muted:

  - Right-Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Volume Mixer".

  - On the Microphone slider, slide it up to 100%.

Change the format of the Microphone:

  - Right-click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Double click on Microphone.

  - Go to the Advanced Tab, choose any of the 16-bit options on the list.

Tried 2 different earplugs without a built in mic.

The HP Reverb microphone start working when I unplug the headphones from the 3.5 mm bult-in contact.

This seems to be as designed.

My follow up question is;

Will you consider changing this in a software or firmware update?
