I bought the headset today and I went into an Xbox party with my friend. Even when my mic was muted, my friend could hear everything that came through my headset.

Have you tried with different devices, such as Mobile phones and Laptops?

If the headset "mute functionality" is proven other audio device, it's not an issue with the headset.

 

Workaround:
Firstly, disconnect and reconnect the jack connector to the computer or other audio devices. Most importantly, make sure the jack connector type you are using is compatible with your audio devices.
