Got my Reverb Friday and installed it without issue on my Ryzen 2700X/RTX2080 system. Played around for 3-4 hours with steam VR and movies and I must say the experience is amazing. I came from a Rift and Oculus Quest and it is a huge upgrade. Of course WMR is a little hanky and controllers could be better but still it was excellent. I say WAS because went to use it the next day on Saturday and put the headset on and it's just black. WMR now gives the dreaded check display cable error. So I proceed to do as suggested and try a different USB3 port and displayport on my card. Reboot. No difference. Next I uninstall the headset from device manager and uninstall WMR, unplug the headset and reboot my computer. Start the WMR install again and same display cable error and now I can't even reinstall WMR.
So I decided to update my mobo bios just in case and also updated to latest nvidia drivers (I was only 1 version behind) as well as motherboard drivers and check windows update. Reboot and try again with the same result. So at this point it's now Sunday and I get on support chat with HP and they quickly realized that they needed to elevate the issue so they are calling me back tomorrow.
Meanwhile the headset was left sitting there plugged in to the computer and I decided to write this post. I opened WMR to see the exact error again and it says headset detected and starts going through the install. So now I sit waiting for it to finish installing to see if it works. WTH! lol
Update: It does work I put it on my head to try it out and almost immediately the screen goes black and the error is back. I see it is going to be one of those kind of relationships. I tried a USB2 port just now and the error changes to please plug in to a USB3 port.
Update2: Yesterday the headset was randomly starting up WMR when I was doing other things on the computer. It would open WMR and sometimes give the error and other times would be working. I put it on for a while and watched a movie and it was randomly rebooting itself and sometimes flickering and even one eye went black while the other stayed on a few times. Then it finally just totally quit working again. Could it be a loose connection inside the headset?

Appreciate you trying the steps. This looks like an issue with the hardware connectivity. I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding this.
Have a great day!

Hi @DrWags
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the connectivity issue.
Please try -
Connect the headset cable using an available DisplayPort (DP) on the computer.
-or-
Connect the headset cable using the mini-DP to DP adapter included with the headset.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

If you bothered to read my post you would see that I already tried that: "So I proceed to do as suggested and try a different USB3 port and displayport on my card. " And better yet I tried all 3 different displayport's on my RTX2080.
