HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Professional Edition
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a Gigabyte 5700 XT GAMING OC 8GB It works fine with main monitor.

When I plug in the HP Reverb I get some sound and evidence the head tracking is working on the main monitor, but the headset display back-lighting does not turn on.

At first I thought it may be the HP Reverb, I swapped out the 5700XT in my machine with the Nvidia 1060GTX it replaced and the HP Reverb works great on the Nvidia, but the 1060GTX is half the speed.

I swapped back the 5700XT and tried replacing drivers trying versions 20.2.1-19.7.5 and a windows reinstall with no luck per recommendation from AMD support, at no point has the back-light turned on for the 5700XT, not even a flicker.

Is the 5700XT compatible with the HP Reverb?

The Microsoft WMR 'is your system ready' tool said is was 'good to go' and everything was advertised as compatible above vega 56.

I did notice the nvidia GTX1060 would pick up the native resolution in the WMR application headset settings correctly as 4320x2160 but the AMD 5700XT would return its native resolution as an incorrect 640x480 in the WMR ‘headset’ settings .

My last response from AMD support:

‘‘I see that you are still having the same issue after clean installation of various drivers. Also, you do not have this issue when using different graphic card with HP Reverb.  IN this case, I request you to get in touch with HP Reverb manufacturer and see if there are any known issue with RX 5700XT and HP Reverb“

My last response from Gigabyte support:

”The issue is likely incompatibility between the GPU’s driver and the headset’s, so I’m afraid we cannot assist you further on this matter unless you can provide proof that it works with another vendor’s RX 5700XT.”

I have not come across any posts out there where I could validate it works on that series.

So my thought is the driver has not been implemented between AMD and Microsoft? The HP Mixed Reality Headset and Hololens device shows up fine in device manager but the Nvidia driver seems to know how to handle it and Radeon does not.

System:

Gigabyte 5700 XT GAMING OC 8GB - GV-R57XTGAMING OC-8GD

Windows 1909 - Latest update

AMD 3700X

ASRock 570 pro4 - Latest Bios

32g 3200 DDR4

750Watt PSU

Thanks

@Matson173,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know whether HP Reverb is compatible with latest AMD RX 5000 Series.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Have you checked the headset on different display ports on the graphics card?

I see that you have already performed all the relevant troubleshooting and you have tested the headset on a Nvidia card and it is working fine.

Based on below article the headset is compatible with AMD RX 5000 series. However, I recommend you contact support to further diagnose the issue.
