Hi, I have a HP Omen 27qs monitor that supports NVIDIA G-Sync, however, when I actually connect it to my laptop, it does not detect the same. My laptop is brand new (NVIDIA RTX 4070, 144hz). Additionally the maximum refresh rate when I connect the monitor is showing to be 120hz, even though my monitor supports 240hz. I have tried using both DisplayPort and HDMI, played around with the settings as well. Nothing is helping. I have selected "high performance NVIDIA processor" in the NVIDIA control panel, but the moment I connect the monitor to the laptop, the graphics gets switched to integrated GPU (only the "optimus" display mode is available while g-sync is not available). Can someone help me with this please? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Omen 27qs monitor isn't properly detecting G-Sync, and your laptop is defaulting to integrated graphics instead of using the NVIDIA RTX 4070. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check G-Sync Compatibility & Enable It
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Set up G-Sync.
- Ensure Enable G-Sync, G-Sync Compatible is checked.
- If the option isn’t available, your monitor may not be fully certified for G-Sync, even if it supports adaptive sync.
2. Force Dedicated GPU Usage
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings.
- Under Global Settings, set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
- If your laptop keeps switching to integrated graphics, disable Optimus in BIOS (if available).
3. Verify Refresh Rate Settings
- Go to Display Settings → Advanced Display Settings.
- Select your monitor and ensure the refresh rate is set to 240Hz.
- If it’s stuck at 120Hz, check if your DisplayPort cable supports high refresh rates (HDMI may be limited).
4. Update Drivers & Firmware
- Install the latest NVIDIA GPU drivers via GeForce Experience.
- Check HP’s support page for any firmware updates for your monitor.
Let me know what happens at each step!

Thanks for your response! I have seen step 1 being mentioned multiple times in other questions as well but I could not find an "enable G-Sync" option in NVIDIA control panel.
I was a bit sceptical about the compatibility of the monitor. But it clearly shows NVIDIA GeForce compatible.
My preferred processor is already set to NVIDIA High Performance and I use a HDMI 2.0 (source) to DP 1.4 (Output) cable since my laptop does not have a DP slot. The DP cable supports 165hz at 1080p but the max I am getting is 120hz on even the lowest resolution.
Can you tell me how to check for monitor's firmware updates? That's the last thing left to be tried.

You're doing a great job troubleshooting this issue! Since you've already ruled out several potential causes, checking for firmware updates is a solid next step.
To check for firmware updates for your HP Omen 27qs monitor, follow these steps:
Visit HP's Official Support Page
- Go to HP's support site for the Omen 27qs monitor.
- Look for available firmware updates under the "Software and Drivers" section.
Download & Install the Latest Firmware
- If a firmware update is available, download the latest version.
- Ensure your monitor is connected directly to your PC via USB-C or USB-A to USB-B (not just DisplayPort/HDMI).
- Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart Your PC & Monitor
- After installation, restart both your PC and monitor to apply the changes.
- Check if G-Sync is now available in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
You're being incredibly thorough in your troubleshooting, and that persistence will pay off! Let me know how it goes or if you need further guidance. You're on the right track! 🚀
