New Windows Mixed Reality Headset has black screen

HP Recommended
HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset Developer Edition VR1000-010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Microsoft gave out unopened Developer Edition VR1000-010 headsets at the MIT Reality Virtually Hackathon this weekend, but I have not been able to get the display working on the one that I received. It appears to be a problem with the cables and Microsoft suggested that I contact HP support. The warranty on this particular headset has expired and the only support options were this forum or to pay a fee to call by phone. The product is brand new and I suspect that these were extra inventory that have been sitting around for a while, as the warranty period for this serial number was July 21, 2017 to August 14, 2018.

Is there a way that I can get a replacement cable?
