Omen Headset 800
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I just bought a new Omen Headset 800 and am concerned it may be gray market or counterfeit.  I bought it from Woot (I understand they sometimes sell shady items), but this was listed as "New", so I figured it was safe.  Anyway, the box shows that it should include a warranty card (with a "W" icon) and states it has an "HP standard one-year limited warranty".  However, I could find no warranty card inside.  Also, I tried to register the warranty on the HP site, but that requires a serial number and I can't find one anywhere on the box or product.

Can anyone let me know what I've bought?  Is this a known problem that anyone's seen before?  I guess I'm trying to learn whether HP sells some of these headsets, but purposely leaves out the warranty card and serial number and, if so, why?  Can I somehow register and utilize, if needed, the warranty?

I may have to just deal with returning if HP clarifies that I'm on my own with this (I don't want to have paid for an illegitimate product).

Thanks!

Justin

OK -- I feel a bit silly now, as I did just find the serial number -- sorry if I wasted anyone's time. 🙂  I had seen a photo of a box with a SN sticker on the bottom and mine didn't have that.  However, there was a tag on the cord that I thought was just one of those UL listed-type notices.  It actually has the full Model/Part Number/Serial Number info.

Now, however, after registering the product with HP and then checking the warranty status, I'm told the warranty is expired: from 6/18/17 to 7/22/18.  I understand about the 4th, 5th, and 6th characters of the SN indicating the build date and that fits exactly with this start date.  So, is it normal for HP to begin the warranty period when the product is first manufactured (rather than sold to the end user)?  This seems very odd, but I assume I have to ask them to somehow reset the warranty from my actual purchase date (shouldn't that just happen automatically when registering the product at HP?).

If anyone's encountered something similar, I'd appreciate hearing how you went about getting your proper warranty period.

Thanks!

Justin

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
