HP K280 Gaming Keyboard
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I bought an HP gaming keyboard model number "K280". This keyboard doesn't have an FN key; instead, it has a settings key that works as a backlit on and off key. How to convert the settings key to the FN key. and how to adjust the backlit brightness. There is no user manual

Hi @SDK_21

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The HP K280 Gaming Keyboard lacks a dedicated Fn key, meaning its functionality is likely fixed by design. However, here are some ways to adjust settings:

1. Remap the Settings Key to Fn (If Possible)

  • HP does not officially provide a way to remap the Settings key to an Fn key, but you can try third-party software like:
    • SharpKeys (for basic key remapping)
    • AutoHotkey (for custom key functions)
    • Microsoft PowerToys (for advanced remapping)

2. Adjust Backlight Brightness

  • If the Settings key only toggles the backlight on/off, brightness adjustment may not be supported.
  • Some HP keyboards allow brightness control via:
    • Fn + F5 or Fn + F4 (check if these work)
    • BIOS settings (some models allow backlight control in BIOS)
