To work around this problem, yes you do.  Just like the rest of us who had to.

I know; you shouldn't have to but it does work and they are very cheap.

Same problem on MSI Mag Mortar B550. Come on HP please get this sorted out.

I had this problem with my Asrock x570 creator motherboard. It's crazy they didn't discover this before launch with such a popular motherboard chipset.

My work around was to use the usb a to usb c converter with the front ports on my pc. None of the usb c ports, I have 3, work.

Other option is a powered hub. Terrible QA testing by hp and Microsoft.

Sorry HP,

I understand that we go through tough times, but keep your customers waiting for months to deliver the product and then it is literally unusable for Mainboards that support Zen3 architecture and was also the latest release for many years old Zen2.

Basically you cut off all AMD users with that.

A workaround is to have luck with USB ports. I got it working on two of my ports but it keeps just loosing functionality randomly.

Or to buy an extension card... Seriously I have a big issue buying more hardware to get a driver issue worked around. More hardware means in this case, more lanes blocked, more power consumed and I am short with this on my build.

Please fix your stuff

Same problem here as i got the reverb 2 today. Tried all USB ports, updated drivers, restarted, unplugged and plugged in again. Nothing works. TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI), RTX 3080.

Guess my VR headset will be returned for a full refund as these problems seem quite old and drivers not fixed yet.

Same boat as all of you...

My rig:

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X

ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 Super

Received my HP Reverb g2 yesterday, all excited. Only to fear that it was DOA as nothing would get it to initialize.

Once I found this thread I tried all the different ports and i briefly got it to work on the front panel usb port. Once i turned it off and on it stopped working and I could not get it back (BTW it worked but had no audio)

I have 2 usb hubs. I tried one (it was an Orico) it didin't work at all. I tried the other (UGreen brand) and it does work. Sometimes it wont but I have been able to get it going on any port but not without problems. When it works the audio constantly switches between the headset and the desktop, I have NOT been able to get that working right, and it also makes the game fps drop constantly and the audio goes out of sink, in other words unplayable.. To possibly use it I could only disable the audio entirely and than use my Bluetooth earbuds instead which actually works quite nice however, ya know, rather have the headset audio work.

I did order one of the suggested PCIE cards (ELUTENG) that will arrive monday and maybe see if this gets it working... If not it's going back.

I really wish I knew of this issue as I would have canceled the pre-order.

edit 12-26-20: tried in bios putting pcie to gen 3 on everything. didnt work.

edit 12-28-20: I received the PCIE card and everything worked fine, audio issues gone. I played a few hours of Squadons without any problems. However I messed around with Boneworks Sandbox (and probably had the graphics too high) and I was hit with a bluescreen in the headset (not the computer) and was not able to get the headset working again until I rebooted.... so dont know what that all means.

No offense, but it doesn't matter if a workaround is cheap. It matters that when you buy hardware everything you need needs to be provided as well. And if there is a driver issue, like in this case, you fix it in time. It's not like they do not know about the issue and need to find a root cause. We narrowed it down and there is no comment on when a fix is to be expected!

That's the issue here.

And else we did not talk about other issues like sound bugs where the sound constantly switches between multiple audio hardware... Sure I could disable all audio hardware everytime I do VR... But that's not what it should work like.

I have bought myself a PCIe Card and I of course got it worked around partially now, but sorry if I buy a G2 I want to plug and play and not fix issues for hours. I spent more time fixing by now then playing and that's sad.

I had this with my Oculus quest too, but that was a hardware not designed for PC connection and still worked better in Beta state as G2 by now does for me.

I give up.

I have tried USB external hub with external power. I bought a PCIe USB hub today, that didnt work either.

Now i tried everything, still not working. What a scandal by HP, no word from them, they had long time to fix this now.

I must have gotten lucky.  I have an ASUS Strix x-570-e mobo.  Got the 7-14 error code when plugged into the USB-C port on the rear panel.  Tried using the USB adapter switch to a regular USB 3.0 port and it worked.  Still frustrating.  I thought my new headset was DOA for a few minutes.

HP - Please fix!  This is clearly a driver issue, or lack there of.

Thanks!
