OMEN 25L Desktop PC GT12-1000i (ID 1N3Z1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Dear HP Comunity,
I own an OMEN 25L Desktop PC GT12-1000i (ID 1N3Z1AV) that came with 16 GB of memory (2 x8 GB).

I would like to upgrade the memory with one of the following two scenarios:

a) Buy 2x8 GB extra

b) Replace with 2x16 GB.

I read in many places that for this PCs that are with Intel processor you could not add neither replace with any other memory brand except for the ones sold exclusively by HP.

So the questions are:

1) It is correct that the only memory I coud add it needs to be HP brand and sell it only by HP ?

2) If answer to question 1) is Yes, where I should buy the HP memory considering that I am located in Europe ?

3) If answer to question 1) is no, are below specs the correct ones for this HP Desktop to buy the memory in any other brand (Kingston, Crucial, etc.)

Memory upgrade information

  • Dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture.

  • Four DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets.

  • Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933).

  • Supports 8 GB and 16 GB DDR4 UDIMMs

  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems

  • NOTE: 32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.

  • Supports up to 64 GB (unbuffered) with 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit computers

  • NOTE: Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.

Thanks in advance for your help, support and patience.

Kind regards.

@mfili,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

This is a toughie.  Firstly, you need to keep in mind to avoid mixing different RAM -HP computers are finnicky when it comes to RAM and achieving max RAM speeds.

That said, and keeping it brief, looking at these HP Omen 25L Desktop GT12-1xxx Users: UserBenchmark: HP OMEN 25L Desktop GT12-1xxx Compatible Components,  all I see -as in exclusively, is HP-branded Kingston 3200 MHz RAM.

That would suggest to me to see if you can somehow get yourself an additional Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-8X 2 x 8GB RAM set, as that would be preferable. But you are quite right: getting that RAM in the EU can be nigh impossible.

So, if I were in your proverbial shoes, I personally would try out this RAM: the Crucial Ballistix 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Desktop Gaming Memory (Black) with p/n: BL2K8G32C16U4B.

You should be able to get this RAM via Amazon or another EU-based online retailer. If this RAM somehow disappoints (say it gets stuck at 2666 MHz), you should be able to return it and get your money back.

Hope this was helpful.

@mfili,

Or, on second thought, you could instead go for this Crucial Ballistix 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Desktop Gaming Memory (Black) with p/n: BL2K16G32C16U4B, as it is preferable not to mix RAM as a general rule of thumb.

Same story: this RAM should run A-OK on your desktop at 3200 MHz, and should 'score' in the high eighties if not low nineties as per UserBenchMark RAM scores calculation.  If not, return to sender it is.

@mfili,

And even though you specified that your desktop's RAM is spec'd out at 2933 MHz, your Hana motherboard (SSID: 8876) is supposed to support up to DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz RAM, as verified here: HP Desktop PCs - Hana motherboard specifications | HP® Customer Support, and in the aforementioned UserBenchMark link:

Don't forget to enable the XMP profile on your new RAM sticks when you get them installed.
You can do this in the BIOS, which you can access through F10 on HP systems (I believe).
Note: the XMP profile settings wont show up UNTIL you've put in 3rd party RAM sticks.
