OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-1000i (6C1R9AV)

Randomly my computer that was purchased in December of 23, both monitors will go black and my fans on the computer will just start blowing insanely loud. This issue started back in June, happening maybe once a week. Contacted customer support, did a bios update etc. Now the last few weeks this issue is happening 2 to 3 times a day and becoming very frustrating. Gaming or working, doesn't matter it just randomly happens. Was seeing if anyone had any input on this.

Hi @bids1989,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your computer's screens go black and the fans start running at full throttle, especially if it's a recent issue that started a few months after purchase, it could be indicative of several potential problems. Here’s a comprehensive guide to diagnosing and fixing this issue:

1. Check for Overheating

Monitor Temperatures:

  1. Use Monitoring Software: Install software like HWMonitor, Core Temp, or MSI Afterburner to check CPU and GPU temperatures.
  2. Check for Overheating: If temperatures are excessively high, the system may be shutting down to protect itself.

Clean Vents and Fans:

  1. Power Off: Turn off the computer and unplug it.
  2. Clean: Use compressed air to clean the vents and fans to ensure proper airflow.

2. Inspect Hardware

Check GPU and RAM:

  1. Reseat Components: If you're comfortable, open your PC case and reseat the graphics card and RAM modules to ensure they are properly connected.
  2. Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the components for any visible signs of damage.

Test with Other Hardware:

  1. Try a Different GPU: If you have a spare graphics card, test with it to rule out GPU issues.
  2. Test RAM: Run a memory diagnostic tool like MemTest86 to check for faulty RAM.

3. Update Drivers and Firmware

  1. Download the Latest Drivers: Go to the HP  website (NVIDIA, AMD) and download the latest drivers.
  2. Install and Restart: Follow the instructions to install and restart the computer.:
  3. Check for Updates: Update all drivers through Device Manager or use a driver update tool.
  4. Check Hp Website: Ensure you have the latest BIOS version from your HP website.
  5. Follow Update Instructions: Follow the HP instructions carefully to avoid bricking your system.

4. Check Power Supply:

  1. Ensure Adequate Wattage: Verify that the PSU has sufficient wattage for your hardware.
  2. Test PSU: Use a PSU tester or swap with a known good PSU to check for issues.

5. Run Diagnostics

  1. HP Tools: Many HP include built-in diagnostics tools accessible through BIOS or boot options.
  2. Use Tools: Run stress tests using tools like Prime95 for CPU and FurMark for GPU to see if the issue can be replicated under stress.

6. Investigate System Logs

  • Check Event Viewer:
    1. Open Event Viewer: Press Win + X and select Event Viewer.
    2. Look for Errors: Check the System and Application logs for errors or warnings around the time the issue occurred.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

That seems a bit extreme. Why pay $3,000 for a prebuild to have issues 6 months later, and on top of that still under warranty. I have a case manager who’s taking over my case and it has been a lovely (sarcasm) experience thus far.
