Hi @NotANUJ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's not uncommon for a gaming laptop to experience high CPU usage, especially during startup and intensive tasks like gaming. Here’s a breakdown of what might be happening and some steps to address it.
Startup High CPU Usage:
- Initial High Usage: When you start your PC, various background processes and services load, which can spike CPU usage. This is usually temporary and should decrease as these processes finish initializing.
- Normal Behavior: It’s generally normal for CPU usage to spike to 100% at startup, but if it remains high for an extended period, it might indicate other issues.
CPU Usage During Gaming:
- Fluctuating Usage: During gaming, fluctuating CPU usage between 50% and 100% can be normal, especially if the game is demanding and your CPU is being fully utilized.
- High Peaks: Spikes to 100% are common when the CPU is handling intense tasks. However, if these spikes are causing stuttering or performance issues, it might be worth investigating further.
Possible Causes and Solutions:
- Thermal Throttling: If your laptop is overheating, it might throttle the CPU to prevent damage, leading to performance fluctuations. Ensure your cooling system is functioning properly and consider cleaning any dust from vents.
- Background Processes: Check for unnecessary background applications or services that might be consuming CPU resources. Use Task Manager (Windows) to identify and manage these processes.
- Driver Updates: Ensure your CPU drivers and other system drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause performance issues.
- Power Settings: Adjust your power settings to High Performance mode in Windows, which can help maintain better CPU performance during gaming.
- Performance Monitoring: Use monitoring tools to check CPU temperature and utilization. Tools like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner can provide insights into your CPU’s performance and temperature.
- System Optimization: Ensure your system is optimized for gaming. This includes updating your graphics drivers, adjusting in-game settings for better performance, and checking for any software or firmware updates for your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
