OMEN 35L Gaming Desktop PC GT16-0000i (9X6A5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Up until a few days ago I was able to use the Omen Gaming Hub to control all the RGB lighting in my system - I just turn them all off as I find them distracting - including my Kingston Fury RAM sticks.  But then I noticed they had all turned back on again and the Omen Gaming Hub wasn't controlling them.   I have tried many things including:

I reinstalled Omen Gaming Hub  but found that it then couldn't find any RGB hardware at all.

I tried accessing the BIOS settings - no setting found.

I tried using the Windows 11's own lighting options, which works with everything except the RAM lights.

I tried OpenRGB - it couldn't detect any RGB hardware.

I tried SignalRGB, which works with everything except the RAM lights.

I tried Fury CTRL - closed instantly with nessage saying "Unsupported DIMM found".

I tried updating the latest Windows updates.

I tried updating to the latest BIOS/UEFI.

Again, I just want them all off, but nothing seems to work since Omen Gaming Hub lost control.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @ChrisIW

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying this out so clearly—I'm really sorry you're stuck in this RGB limbo. You're absolutely right to expect full control via OMEN Gaming Hub, especially since it previously worked. The fact that OMEN Gaming Hub no longer detects RGB hardware, and Fury CTRL reports “Unsupported DIMM”, points to a recent firmware or SDK-level regression—likely triggered by a Windows update, BIOS update, or internal HP software change.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery strategy to restore control or disable the lighting entirely:

Step-by-Step Fix: Disable RGB Lighting on OMEN 35L (GT16-0000i)

1. Check OMEN Light Studio Plugin

HP recently split RGB control into a separate plugin:

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
  • Go to Settings > Add-ons.
  • Ensure OMEN Light Studio is installed and updated.
  • If missing, install it from the Microsoft Store or within Gaming Hub.

Without Light Studio, RGB detection may fail—even if the hardware is present.

2. Reinstall HP SDK and Services

Corrupted HP services can block RGB detection.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Look for HP Omen HSA Service or HP System Event Utility.
  • If missing or disabled:

3. Restore Kingston Fury RGB Control

Kingston Fury RGB modules rely on SPD and SMBus access, which can be blocked by BIOS or third-party software.

  • Visit: Kingston Fury CTRL Support
  • Download the latest Fury CTRL version.
  • If it still shows “Unsupported DIMM”:
    • Your DIMMs may be OEM-locked or lack RGB control firmware.
    • Confirm exact model via CPU-Z > SPD tab.

Some HP-bundled Fury DIMMs are non-addressable or locked to BIOS control, meaning third-party apps can’t override them.

4. Rollback BIOS (If RGB Broke After Update)

If RGB control broke immediately after BIOS update, consider rolling back:

You're doing everything right—this issue is frustrating but fixable. Let me know your exact RAM model (e.g., Kingston Fury Beast RGB 3200MHz) and whether OMEN Light Studio appears in your Gaming Hub—I’ll guide you further.

Thank you for getting back to me.  To clarify:

OMEN Light Studio is installed and updated.

HP Omen HSA Service is present and enabled (should I try uninstalling and re-installing?)

Kingston Fury RGB Control still shows "Unsupported DIMM" (CPU-Z didn't describe the model but it shows a part number: HP60U40S8HA-16FRE and serial number: 002FA3E7 with 5600 MHz speed)

I haven't rolled back my BIOS as the problem occurred before I updated the BIOS (in an attemot to fix the issue) and I would prefer to keep the latest version.  The biggest problem seems to be that the Omen Light Sudio still cannot detect any RGB devices.  The only thing that shows up at all is my Omen monitor (that doesn't even have lighting).

There are a couple of strange things that may or may not help -

1) under Windows settings for dynamic lighting it strangely shows 6 copies of my computer name.

2) When I boot my PC the colour settings on my RAM seem to randomize to somethign new every time.

3) When I restart my PC from hibernation mode ALL lights come back on - not just RAM.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up, @ChrisIW—this really helps narrow things down.

Based on your observations and the part number HP60U40S8HA-16FRE, it’s very likely that your Kingston Fury RGB DIMMs are OEM-locked modules supplied directly through HP. These often lack full RGB control firmware and may not respond to third-party utilities like Fury CTRL, OpenRGB, or even OMEN Light Studio.

Let’s break down what’s happening and how to move forward:

What’s Likely Going On

  • HP-branded Kingston Fury DIMMs often have RGB preconfigured at the firmware level, with no exposed control interface.
  • The “Unsupported DIMM” error in Fury CTRL confirms that these modules don’t support SPD-based RGB control.
  • The randomized colors on boot and lighting reset after hibernation suggest that the RGB controller is active but unmanaged—likely defaulting to firmware presets.
  • The six copies of your PC name in Windows Dynamic Lighting indicate a registry or device enumeration bug, possibly caused by a recent Windows update or OMEN SDK glitch.

What You Can Try Next

1. Reinstall HP Omen HSA Service and System Event Utility

Even if present, a corrupted install can block RGB detection.

This may restore internal RGB communication between OMEN Gaming Hub and the DIMMs.

2. Force RGB Shutdown via BIOS (If Available)

Even if no RGB toggle is visible, some HP BIOS versions allow hidden RGB suppression.

  • Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS
  • Look under Advanced > Device Configuration or Power Management
  • If no RGB option is visible, check for LED Behavior or Ambient Lighting

Some users have found hidden toggles depending on BIOS version and region.

You're doing everything right by documenting the issue clearly and trying every tool available. I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.

An update from HP is supposed to be coming on the 15th but in the mean time, just Windows Dynamic Lighting to control and even turn off your fan RGB lighting by turning on the option.

I'm afraid I'm no further forward.  I still couldn't find anything even closely resembling an RGB or lighting setting - hidden or otherwise in the BIOS.  I couldn't find the HP System Event Utility listed as a download for my Omen 35L, so I haven't uninstalled the version I have.  I also couldn't find the OMEN SDK package in my installed apps list.
