Hi,
Based on this link - https://communities.intel.com/thread/125953 - it is possible to accelarate secondary storage with intel Optane. However, when customizing the Omen Desktop PC with these config -
- 128 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
- 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA
I was not able to add Intel Optane. The error said - Optane does not go with SSD, which is correct, but why cant I add it to the Secondary storage? Would love to get this added to my order.

Hello @HazardCFC10
Yours is a question thats actually best asked on the intel forums as to why it wont work. Its not an HP limitation.
As I understand it, Optane can only be used to accelerate one Windows 10 SATA boot drive and cannot be used for secondary storage drives. This is how Intels algorithm is set up. You already have your system setup to use an SSD to boot from.

Hope it helps, its all I can offer.

Thanks for the quick response.
If you click on the link, it says secondary storage can benefit from the optane memory. Quoting from the page -
“Hello everyone,
There has been an update, secondary data drive acceleration is now possible with the latest Intel® Optane™ memory and Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) applications (Version 16.0.2.1086 or later).
Make sure to review the requirements here as they differ from main drive acceleration:
- Secondary/Data SATA Drive Acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory
- Software and Platform Support for Intel® Optane™ Memory”
Am I missing something here?

So it does, on the second page but users are still having issues getting it to work.
You can ask the Intel forum and also contact HP Support and see if they can give you more detailed information on it. You are entitiled to contact them as you are under warranty.
Optane is still a new toy, so not a whole lot of info out there.
