Product: HP Omen
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I'm trying to upgrade my HP Omen, which came with a 7th gen Intel i5 processor, to a 9th gen Intel i5 processor but nothing happens when I turn it on. I've tried looking around for troubleshooting advice and it looks like it is possible that the motherboard isn't compatible? Can anyone advise?

What is the full model number or product number of your PC?

 

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

It is highly unlikely that if your PC came with an Intel 7th gen processor, that it would support a 9th gen processor.

 

The product specs page for your PC should have the processor upgrade info.

OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224 .....when I look at the specs it seems like the only upgrade option would be to Intel Core i7-7700 (Kabylake) 3.6 GHz Quad Core....is that right?

I just looked at all the BIOS release notes on the support page, and none of them add support for newer processors.

Correct and I will also add... it is physically impossible to install an 8/9th gen Intel CPU onto a motherboard built for 6/7th gen CPU's. This goes for any brand motherboard. The pins are wired completely different.
